Privacy policy
A site that demands rigor from others should be clear about itself. This document says what Vestígio Oculto collects, what it does not collect, who else is involved and what you can demand.
01Who is responsible
Vestígio Oculto is an independent editorial project, published at vestigiooculto.com, with a corresponding YouTube channel at @VestigoOcultoBrasil. For any matter covered by this policy — including requests for deletion or for information — the contact is the e-mail published on the contact page.
02What we collect, and what we do not
Let us start with what does not exist here. There is no sign-up area, login, comments, newsletter or contact form. No field on this page asks for your name, your e-mail, your phone number or any document. We do not build reader profiles and we do not sell, rent or share anyone's list, because there is no list.
What exists is what any site on the internet receives as a technical consequence of being accessed: the server that hosts these pages logs the IP address of whoever accesses it, the date and time, the page requested and the browser used. These logs serve security and fault diagnosis, and are not used to identify people.
03Cookies and advertising
This site shows ads through Google AdSense. To do so, Google and its partners use cookies — small files stored in your browser — in order to select and measure the ads shown.
- Google, as a third-party vendor, uses cookies to serve ads on this site.
- The DART cookie enables Google to serve ads based on the user's visits to this and other sites on the internet.
- Third-party partners and networks may also use cookies, device identifiers or similar technology to collect information for measuring and personalizing ads.
- None of this data passes through us: the site does not receive, store or have access to what those networks collect.
You can turn off personalized advertising — for every site that uses Google's network, not just this one — at adssettings.google.com. Google's full rules are at policies.google.com/technologies/ads. To opt out of behavioral advertising from several networks at once, there is aboutads.info/choices.
In addition, every browser lets you block or delete cookies in its own settings. Doing so does not prevent you from reading any dossier: the content of this site does not depend on cookies to work.
04What we store in your browser
One single thing, and it does not leave your device: when you answer the cookie banner, your choice is recorded in the browser's local storage, under the key vo-consentimento. It only serves to avoid asking again on every page. It is not a cookie, it is not sent to any server, and it disappears when you clear the site's data or click “Review cookie choice” in the footer of any page: the saved choice is erased and the banner appears again.
05Third-party content
A single external service takes part in displaying these pages, and it receives your IP address simply because the page requests a file from it:
- Google AdSense — delivers the ads, as described above. On the first visit, the ad script loads while the notice banner is on screen. If you decline in the banner, the ad script is removed and is no longer loaded on the next pages; cookies already stored can be deleted in the browser settings.
YouTube only comes into play if you click a link to the channel. No video is embedded in these pages, and no player is loaded without that click.
Other than that, everything these pages request comes from this same domain: the archive images in the dossiers and also the typefaces, which are hosted here. Opening a dossier notifies no one.
06Your rights under the LGPD
Law No. 13,709/2018 — Brazil's General Data Protection Law, the LGPD — guarantees you, as the data subject, the right to confirm whether any of your data is being processed, to access it, to correct what is incomplete or wrong, to request anonymization or deletion, to request portability, to know with whom it was shared and to revoke consent at any time.
In practice, exercising these rights here is brief, because the database we could hand over is practically empty. Even so, any request made through the e-mail on the contact page will be answered. To revoke the choice made in the cookie banner, use the “Review cookie choice” link in the footer of any page. For the data that Google collects through the ads, the request has to be made to Google itself — we display the space, but it is Google that processes that data.
07Children and adolescents
The content of this site is journalistic and is not aimed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you are responsible for a child and believe that any of their data has reached us, get in touch so that it can be deleted.
08Changes to this policy
If something changes — a new ad network, a measurement tool, a comments section — this page changes with it, and the date at the top is updated. Relevant changes are recorded here, and not anywhere else.
